Hilde Bessems joined the practice in 2018, having graduated as an osteopath from the Flanders international college of osteopathy (FICO) in 2013. Hilde not only brings 5 years of osteopathic experience and knowledge to the practice, but having worked for 20 years before that as a physiotherapist has an amazing amount of hands-on experience, respect and understanding of the human body.
Hilde works with us on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Hilde grew up in Elewijt, and with a father as a General Practitioner, and a brother who also studied medicine, she followed them into the medical world. In 1993 Hilde graduated with a distinction in physiotherapy from the prestigious Katholiek Universiteit Leuven (Leuven University.)
Realising the limitations of physical therapy, Hilde took the step to study osteopathy in 2008, and graduated with her osteopathic degree in 2013.
“I am convinced that with such a long history as a physical therapist I will be, and (hopefully) am a good osteopath. I really try and understand and access the movements through the spine, as well as observe for any stresses, strains and demands we put on the body. This helps not only identify the causes of any problems you as a patient might experience, but as important, ways to avoid reoccurrence!”
Outside osteopathy, Hilde is very sportive, and plays tennis, volleyball, waterskiing, and salsa.
“This gives me plenty of practical ways of improving mobility, and I always try and give patients advice and tips over exercises and sports.”
